DR - Diplomatic Relations page

Being a dev on a server for an independantly developed game... its the little things that make a game fun...

My idea: A tab-in game to manage relations with other empires. Only displaying those you are enemies with and allies with. Allowing pacts, with people outside of your alliance. Perhaps even changing the boundaries, making a thin border along the already colored friendly or hostile or even neutral controlled area, giving it a color matching the corresponding relation status. Every empire beginning neutral. Only automatically changing once you've acted hostile towards them, changing them to hostile immediatly.   Just an idea. Trying to help.

I edited that with my phone, sorry for it looking silly.

Green-ally

Red-enemy

Blue-your empire

White-neutral

I see several options available:

1. Passive. If a player's empire is in close proximity to yours and few to no conflicts occur, the peace rating could increase. If there are many conflicts, it would greatly decrease and maybe go negative. Their colour would depend on the peace rating. Example, -1000 would be red, zero would be white and +1000 would be green. Between the values, the colour would get closer to white.

2. Mutual. Requests are sent to players to be mutally marked as ally/non aggresion/enemy. They would only be valid while both players agree with the status. Ships would automatically change to neutral while on ally or NAP stars. On enemy stars, their status would automatically change to aggresive (excluding cloaked scouts).

3. Personal marking. Non-mutual colouring, just for personal reference. Great if you have lots of active players expanding around you and can't keep track of who's who. You manually mark each player as you like.

Well thanks guys. I just, through experience, Its the small things that make it worth playing. I really would love to see something this simple and small to be implemented.

I agree, this would be a very useful tool for figuring out politics.

However, I can see this being a serious pain in the can for an automated system figuring out the outline of any given empire. I'd guess they don't all develop in nice neat spheres.

...though the idea occurs to me that you could do this by simply mapping out people's sensor coverage...

If it directly corresponds with the current generated border that is created it might be easier.
